so i’ve totally dropped the ball on blogging here lately. but i won’t apologize for it. nope. because i’m just gonna be a jerk about it. also, i know none of my readers have been waiting with bated breath to see what i’ve been cooking lately or what i did over the last weekend. all except for matt. he kinda got on my case about not updating. so here we are.

these are just some of the things i’ve been up to over the last couple weeks. i have been playing this DMB album pretty much non-stop since it arrived. geeeeeeeeeze, i love me some dave. old school, 90s dave. as soon as ‘crash’ comes out on vinyl i’ll punch anyone in the face who stands between me and that purchase. best album OF ALL TIME.

i got to have a sushi date with my lover recently and it was the most delicious. i’m already jonesin’ for another sashimi/nigiri throw down at sushi house. i could eat raw fishes every day. every damn day.

also, my kitty is super cute and i’m still making yummy food and letting my friends feed me tasty coconut treats.

oh yeah, and i got to meet Rob Gronkowski (or Gronk, as he lets his BFFs call him) at a stupid early saturday morning meeting at the walmart home office where matt works. it was totally worth the 5 am wake up call. we side-fived, so yeah, we’re basically besties.

last weekend was so gorgeous and warm and lovely. i laid out, sipped tea, and went on a family adventure walk with my boys. i have decided to give up my turtlenecks for the season. i’m a little sad to see them go, but it’s only for a while. let’s face it, i’d way rather wear sleeveless dresses anyhow.

bring on the spring!!!!!

i’m still in shock. i still can’t believe it. my beloved new england patriots are super bowl champions again. i feel like you guys maybe don’t understand how bleeping awesome this is. i mean, i love these players as if they were my brothers, belichick as if he were my dad (or at least a cool uncle), and kraft like a grandpa. this teams is like a family to me. i am emotionally invested in the lives of dudes i’ve never met. and my love for them runs deep. sunday’s super bowl was the single greatest game of my lifetime.

i had to pack most of our patriots shrine in my carryon bag and transport it from our living room in siloam springs, arkansas to a hotel room in orlando, florida. everything was meticulously laid out well before game time. we ate our SB49 snacks before kick off because my stomach cannot handle solid food during. i stood and placed my hand on my heart as i listened and sang along to the national anthem. then it was business time. i wore my blanket as a cape, held my tom beary in the crook of my left arm, and looped my fan towel around fingers. i was ready.

that game was a veritable emotional roller coaster. i was up, down, sideways. i cheered, i cried, i buried my face, and then cried all the happy tears at the end. in a way, i knew we would win. see a few months ago, after the crapfest that was the kansas city monday night football debacle, i was in a local flea market and came across a SBXXXVIII commemorative plastic cup with souvenir t-shirt stuffed inside. that super bowl was the second win of the three that defined the patriots dynasty of the 2000s (it was also the one with the wardrobe malfunction). this cup remained unopened all of these 11 years. i found it, i bought it, i vowed to open it when we won. and we did. and it was sweet.

i could not be more proud of my team and the way they played. never giving up, even as i thought all was lost. and it was even better that i got to watch every second of it with matt. i’m pretty sure we will not soon forget the night of february 1, 2015. it was freakin’ awesome.

my patriots are going back to the super bowl. last night was EPIC. we were yelling, screaming, high-fiving, cheersing, running through the house with me on matt’s back. the ‘no worries’ house was ROCKING. i wore my blanket on my back like a poncho because i couldn’t sit down at all during the game and i whipped my fan towel over my head. seriously, it was like we were in the stands at gillette stadium. that horrible monday night in kansas city when i yelled at an idiot kid tomahawking in my face and cried in the parking lot seems like a lifetime ago. yayyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and now i’m going to orlando to watch the game! yes, i know that the super bowl is played in arizona and not florida. but matt has to stupid work in stupid orlando that weekend and we can’t possibly endure the stress of the biggest game of the year apart from each other!!!!! so hooray for football and the patriots and the super bowl and sunny florida!

this weekend was mostly about football. you know, it’s the PLAYOFFS!! and my team won 🙂 that isn’t to say that i didn’t throw bad words and stuffed animals around the room, i mean, it was a really close game. but in the end, the patriots won and at least for the next week i am a happy girl.

but i also ate food and started the Q&A journal this weekend. so it was a pretty great weekend indeed.

our weekends lately have been very full. this past one was no different. friday night started with a most delicious mussels dinner with great friends around my table. there is something so special about sharing stories over a meal. and i absolutely love having my kitchen overtaken by handsome bearded cooking men.

saturday morning, matt and i went on a run together and i saw this old guy just sitting on a stool in the middle of the trail, talking on his cell phone. so cute.

then we celebrated my favorite 5 year old’s birthday. she makes a pretty adorable bat girl, am i right?

i wore my ‘i give my word to stop at third’ t-shirt from four-legged bird. arkansas abstinence day, 1987. i think it’s pretty funny.

saturday night, we had more friends over for dinner. but this time it was chill and easy and i did all the cooking.

then sunday i watched football and the sunset and they were both lovely indeed.

monday night sadness

sigh. we just got back from kansas city and i figured i’d tell this tale from the bottom up. for a few months now we’d been looking forward to watching our beloved patriots take on the chiefs at arrowhead stadium on monday night football. it was supposed to be a great game to cap off a great long weekend. i’ve learned that football games are much funner to attend when your team is winning.

it started out so so so great. a couple of drinks at the hotel and then moe (our driver) came to pick us up in his lincoln towncar to escort us to the game. he was awesome. we pulled up basically to the front door of the stadium, in the heart of chiefs tailgaters. serious fun. we felt like high rollers. we took some pictures, met some friends and then headed into arrowhead to find our seats.

we had some major awesome seats. we got to see the players warm up and i swear i coulda reached out and gave tom brady a high five or a hug or make out with him or something, we were so close. national anthem, teams run out on the field, the fans broke the sound barrier, and it was all down hill from there.

you guys it was so ugly. the jagweed sitting next to me kept tomahawking in my face. i did, in my most ladylike manner, stand up and yell at him to politely QUIT IT. then i sat down and cried. yes, i am one of those fans. we left the game early and walked to the appointed meeting place to wait for our driver. matt got me a bottle of water and some sour gummy worms and i proceeded to sad eat half the bag while sitting in the middle of the parking lot.

ugh.

but, i still love my team. and really it was a great experience. a super charged atmosphere and being part of a guinness world record to boot. it’s just that i kinda hate the chiefs now.

fall came to visit northwest arkansas this weekend, and as any unwelcomed guest is want to do, she unpacked her bags to stay for the long haul. so saturday morning, i donned my long socks, boots and leggings as pants and went down to the farmers market to pick up my root vegetables because if it feels like autumn i will eat like it’s autumn.

we were mostly kid free on saturday so matt and i decided to live it up by day drinking and even hitting up our local watering hole for mussels and more drinks. there may have been friends and shenanigans involved as well.

sunday my team finally got their sh*t together and pulled out a most decisive win. so all in all, this weekend ruled pretty hard.

now on this rainy, dreary, and most fall-like monday, my love has the day off and we’re going shopping and eating sushi. yay!

this weekend began with such promise. friday evening, matt and i walked down to our favorite spot in downtown for drinks and apps. i wore my newly thrifted black tassel brogues that i found in the boy’s section of my local charity shop for $2 and i sipped on a french 75 which so happens to be the most delicious cocktail of all time. i may have had two of them. i ate brussels sprouts for dinner, which so happens to be my favorite food of all time. so basically friday ruled so hard.

saturday was super chill. and by chill i do mean about 25 degrees cooler than friday and rainy. a stark reminder that winter is coming whether i like it or not. however, it was also relaxing. we went to the farmers market and picked up peach butter (mmmm tasty), potatoes, corn, and hot peppers because my husband can not eat enough hot peppers. and afterwards, matt and i went on a lovely, drizzly run. we finished out the day listening to vinyl records which is just how we roll up in here.

sunday. sunday was supposed to be the greatest. a perfect way to end the weekend and kick off the 2014 football season. i watched all the pregame analysis and cozied up with a yummy salad to watch my team crush the miami dolphins down in south beach. boy howdy, was i wrong. my patriots lost hard core and i was sorely disappointed. i’m trying to bounce back. it was only the first week and this is a long season, afterall. plus i looked cute, so that’s something.

and it begins

there is a someecard that goes ‘all spring and summer she was a graceful, classy lady…then football season started.’ while i could argue that i’m not super graceful or classy in the heat of summer, once the nfl season commences i get downright filthy. and tonight it begins.

if you know me at all, you know that i am a rabid new england patriots fan. i enjoy any football game, but if the pats are playing, don’t even talk to me unless it’s a commercial or we’re up by at least 2 touchdowns. i set up shrine by the tv with all my fan memorabilia and load myself down with socks, scarf, blanket, bear, football, necklace, ring and jersey. and then i scream my head off for 3 hours.

a couple years ago, matt and i went up to foxborough, mass to see the patriots play on monday night at gillette stadium. easily one of the greatest nights of my life. i am pumped to get to see another game this season at the end of the month. photo 1 photo 2

having a common interest in football has been such a fun thing for matt and i. we do it up. monday nights we grill steaks, open a bottle of wine, eat ice cream while watching the game. sundays are spent in the living room with tv and laptop going tracking different teams and trash talking about the players in our fantasy football league. we love this time of year. and we’ve been looking forward to tonights kick off since february.

so, if you need me for anything on a thursday, sunday, or monday for the next five months, too bad. i’m watching football.
