ok. i realize fully that it seems as though we eat and drink like royalty every day of the week. that just isn’t the case. however, we did attend a bar tasting at our favorite local spot on tuesday evening and it was a culinary delight. and we took our obligatory window selfie on the way to the restaurant to start off the night because of course.
but this tasting was all about the greatest of all beverages, the nectar of the gods, bourbon. all the food pairings chosen to highlight the flavors in the drink and celebrate the coolness of the season. 28 Springs always goes above and beyond for their tastings. even down to the personalized menus. as well, i have lots of dietary restrictions and they are more than happy to accommodate me, going so far as to completely alter a course just so there is no trace of gluten, dairy, or nuts on my plate. i love them.
we began the night going on a wee field trip to the bowels of the restaurant to see a true bourbon barrel and the resident drinks enthusiast, casey (look how excited he is!), talked about how the barrels are made, right down to the ozark white oak that is used to craft them. and when we got back to our seats, the first course was ready for us. it was hands down my favorite of the evening. such a delightful little apple salad with kale. mmmmmmmm.
as is the usual, tuesday night is Sons of Otis Malone night. a local blue grass band who plays a lot of gigs but always at 28 on tuesdays. it was fun to end our day listening to those sweet tunes.
